Asphalt Paving Cost: What Drives the Number
Every paving job is different. Here's an honest breakdown of what affects the cost of an asphalt paving project — and why we quote each job individually instead of publishing prices online.
Straight Talk
Why We Don't Publish Prices Online
Asphalt paving prices vary so much from job to job that any number we put online would either be wrong for your specific project or so vague it's useless. A 10,000-square-foot parking lot paving project in Huntsville with a solid existing sub-base costs very different from a 10,000-square-foot lot in Cullman that needs full grading and drainage work.
Instead, we quote every job individually after a site visit. The estimate is free, itemized, and walks you through every line so you know exactly what you're paying for.
Cost Breakdown
The 6 Factors That Drive Asphalt Paving Cost
Lot Size & Square Footage
The biggest single factor. We price by square footage, but the per-foot rate gets better at scale because mobilization and equipment time spread across more area.
Sub-Base Condition
Existing sub-base in good shape means less prep work. A failing sub-base needs grading, compaction, or even full removal — that work happens before any asphalt gets laid.
Hot Mix Grade & Thickness
Premium mix from a reputable plant costs more than budget mix. Commercial parking lots typically need 2-3 inches of compacted asphalt; heavier use needs more.
Scope of Site Prep
Drainage, curb work, ADA stalls, milling, and patching are all separate line items. A simple resurface is much cheaper than a tear-out and replacement.
Site Accessibility
Lots with tight access, slope challenges, or active business operations cost more because the work takes longer and requires phasing.
Striping & Markings
Restripe is a separate line item. ADA-compliant stalls, fire lanes, and custom markings add to the line.
